Ex-Celtic keeper signs for United

RECORD-BREAKING former Celtic youth goalkeeper Stephen Grindlay was snapped up by Ayr United on Saturday and was pitched straight into the first pre-season training session with boss Brian Reid confident he can make a major impact at Somerset Park.
Meanwhile another new boy, defender Allan Dempsie, 20, is going all out to help the Honest Men mount a promotion challenge as the countdown to the start of the new campaign gets underway.
Grindlay was a youth player for Celtic before being picked up by Newcastle United and although primarily in the Toon’s youth team did make one appearance in a friendly against Berwick Rangers aged 19.
Following a brief spell with Grimsby Town, Grindlay returned north to join Dumbarton, becoming a first team player, making more than 100 appearances and breaking a record in April 2007 by keeping his 15th clean sheet of the season.
