By Stewart McConnell
FAST-emerging golf ace Michael Stewart is destined to become Scotland’s equivalent of the Euro Star Express after receiving a call up to both the men’s and boys European Team Championship squads and fellow Troon youngster Kyle Smith has been selected for the latter.
Eighteen-year-old Stewart, crowned Scottish Boys Champion at Southerness in April and joint runner-up in the highly prestigious St Andrews Links Trophy at the Old Course, is in Torino, Italy for the European Team Championship from Tuesday, July 1 until Saturday, July 5.
After competing at the men’s event in Torino, Italy Stewart, the Boys Stroke Play runner up will then join Kilmarnock Barassie’s Kyle Smith for the European Boys Championship at Bled in Slovenia from July 8-12 to compete with his peers.
SGU National Junior Coach Spencer Henderson said: “We have great strength and determination among this talented group of individuals.”
