TWO local councillors have been treated to a royal VIP day during a police training exercise.

South Ayrshire Council's depute leader Margaret Toner and depute Provost Mark Kilpatrick were treated to a special day out with Strathclyde Police's motorcycle section - who ensure the secure transportation of all members of the Royal family and VIP's when they visit their force area.

The officers decided to give the unique prize for two people to play the part of VIP guests during one of their regular live training exercises.

The successful bid for the present was by Councillor Toner during the recent Ayrshire Sportsability fundraising ball - a charity that run sporting events for children and young people with disabilities, to give them the opportunity to try a wide range of sports.

Speaking about the VIP experience, Prestwick's Councillor Toner said: "I was delighted to take part in this training exercise and enjoy a once in a lifetime experience. It was amazing to see the hard work and organisation that went into the VIP exercise."
