A THIEVING shopworker who stole £10,000 in a bogus refunds scame has avoided jail.

Ayr resident Natalie Rae, 23, put fake return slips through her till and pocketed the cash in a bid to pay off student debts.

Bosses caught her after studying cash records and she confessed, Kilmarnock Sheriff Court heard.

Rae, of the town centre's Dalblair Court, admitted stealing from XS Stock in Lamont Drive, Irvine, between January and March 2007.

She was given £2500 compensation order.

The court heard she way paying back the money she took.
