MAN CHARGED WITH SCHOOLGIRL'S MURDER

A 20-YEAR-OLD Prestwick man has been charged with murder following the death of a 17-year-old girl at the weekend.

John Wilson appeared on petition at Ayr Sheriff Court on Monday afternoon.

He was charged with murdering Michelle Stewart in Mill O"Shield Road, Drongan, on Friday night.

He made no plea or declaration and was remanded in custody for further enquiries.

The family of Michelle, a sixth year pupil at Auchinleck Academy, were distraught after attempts to revive her failed.

Her brother, who had just returned from a shift as a nurse at Ayr Hospital, also tried to save her.

As the Drongan community attempted to come to terms with the tragedy, Michelle"s friends posted tributes to her.
