A relieved Robert at his new safe close door

AN Ayr blind man"s battle for close doors to be fitted to end his living hell from junkies and rats has finally been won.

Robert Ferguson had to endure drug addicts 'shooting up' in his stairwell and rubbish being shoved through his letter box since security doors were removed before last summer.

In fact Robert and his Wallacetown neighbours were so enraged they decided to take matters into their own hands and called in the Ayr Advertiser to join their campaign after living in constant fear of rats, dogs dirt, yobs and anyone else to come in to their Duke Terrace homes for months.

Speaking to the Ayr Advertiser this week Robert said: 'This took almost a year to get this done but it is done now and they have made a good job of it my sister tells me. As far as I am concerned it is great now, you can go to your bed and you know everything is locked and safe.

'I"m grateful for all the articles the Ayr Advertiser has written to help us.'

Throughout the year of hell yobs also constantly pounded on Robert"s front door in the early hours claiming there was a fire.

Unfortunately the council were unable to fit the security doors since some flats are privately owned and they had to agree to the work.

If you have any problems with yobs give the newsdesk a call on 01292 267 631 or email editorial@ayradvertiser.co.uk.
