Jessica Appeal - lifesaving surgery moves step closer
By Roisin McGroarty
THE special confirmation date of Jessica Findlay’s lifesaving surgery is set to be given next week - but only if the family can pay for it.
A date will be given to the four-year-old’s mum Rachel next week but she has been warned that the surgery will not be able to go ahead if they haven’t raised enough money.
Rachel said: “I’ve to phone the surgeon in America back next Monday - he makes up his surgical lists in advance so I’m going to get a date.
“It will be good to let others know when we will be going and hopefully all the pledge money will come in as they were waiting on a date to be given before handing over money.”
Rachel herself is still recovering from the horrific car accident that she was involved in on her way to skydive for the Jessica Appeal, fracturing her back in two places while her sister broke her pelvis and two other family friends suffered severe whiplash.
To fully treat her injuries Rachel will have undergo surgery but is putting it back as it would leave her unable to get around for 12 weeks.
However the pain has not stopped her drive to save her little girl with Rachel organising and thinking a host of ways to raise the much needed cash.
She continued: “I’m still sore after the accident and still waiting on the operation but I will get there as long as we get the money, that is all that matters.
“At last we are getting a date that is the main thing. I’d only just phoned them last week to see what was going on and they said to call next Monday and I’d get a date.
“It should also give me an estimated figure of how much it will cost. They said they won’t touch her unless they have the money to see we can afford it.
“The date should also mean that I have time to get all the money in before I go.”
The family only got the chance for Jessica to have a normal life and be able to get this life-altering surgery at the start of April and residents from across South Ayrshire and beyond have been striving hard to ensure the little Troon girl get the funds to go.
A couple of weeks ago we previously revealed how the Jessica Appeal had hit the £100,000 but based upon pledges so now the work begins to make sure all the money raised goes to the youngster.
