Jessica Appeal gets a Spar-vellous effort
By Roisin McGroarty
GENEROUS shoppers and staff have helped boost the Jessica Appeal at two shops.
The Nisa shop in Dundonald and Troon Spar have raised upto £2,000 to help get little four-year-old Jessica Findlay a step closer to her lifesaving surgery.
Several tins in the Dundonald Main Street store and the Troon Portland Street shop have been filled to the brim.
Dundonald store staff member Sadie MacCorquodale said: “We keep it at the counter and it’s filled quite regularly.
“It has been great all the support that has been given.
“Every time it is out on the counter it is filled and we just keep replacing it and we’ve been displaying the tins for awhile since we really heard about it.”
Meanwhile Troon Spar manager Teresa McAdam spoke about their collection.
She said: “Shoppers have been donating wonderfully, and it’s £5 and £10 notes going into it.
“We first heard about it through one of the staff said about it and Jessica lives just round the road.
“As soon as the collection tins come out they are almost full again.”
Teresa continued: “For a case like that you just wish you could give more.
“When ever they are having a day we give donations of wine, etc, so they can raise a bit more money.” In fact the Dundonald store also donate items to the various Jessica causes, most recently handing over a a huge amount of sweets for the Jessica fun day at Eglington Park.
We revealed last week that the total money given and pledged has reached a colossal £100,000. The money raised by customers and staff at the two stores has gone to make this possible.
All the money given by the people of South Ayrshire is being put into the Jessica Appeal for the sole purpose of getting the Troon four-year-old her life-saving surgery which could take place at anytime.
Speaking last week about all the money rased, Jessica’s mum Rachel Findlay said: “It has been really great.
“I just want to make sure her surgery is definitely going to be possible. It is just you don’t know until it is there and I’m just trying to avoid a mad rush at the last moment because the hospital have said that I could have a call and for them to say come on Friday and then what are we going to do. People have raised an awful lot.”
