HOPE: Jessica and mum Rachel

SPECIAL confirmation has arrived that Jessica Findlay’s lifesaving surgery has moved a step closer.

The gorgeous four-year-old has just received news that she is now on the waiting list for the experimental surgery that will give her a chance at life - now it’s a race against time to raise as much money as possible.

Delighted mum Rachel personally received word last week from doctor Frank Hanley, chief of paediatric cardiovascular surgeon at California’s Lucile Children’s Hospital, that her daughter can have the op.

There had always been the hope that the radical surgery could be a possibility and the people of South Ayrshire have been collecting thousands to try and ensure she could get it.

Rachel said: “We just got the news, I was up talking to the doctor the other night.

“We really don’t have a date, it’s just like the waiting list over here, we’ll get told two weeks in advance and just have to go straight over for the surgery.

It is a relief that I know she’s now on the list.”

Rachel has had a hard fight to get treatment after doctors here said they could do no more after six gruelling surgeries - which doctors only just managed to bring her back. In fact Rachel’s even planned her own daughter’s funeral last year.

Now the internationally renowned cardiac surgery specialist has evaluated Jessica’s condition and decided she is a successful candidate for surgery.

Since learning about the Jessica Appeal, the generous people of Troon and across South Ayrshire have raised over £60,000 through a host of events but now the race is on for as much money to be raised as possible with the expected amount needed being £400,000.

Rachel said: “A big thank you to everyone who has raised money. I’ve been told by the hospital just to keep raising as much money as possible.”
