Walter way to travel to Uefa Cup Final

A DEDICATED group of Rangers supporters are travelling in style to Wednesday’s Uefa Cup Final in a large Hummer limo.

The group of 16 decided on the limos after realising the cost of hiring a supporter bus and train fare to get to Manchester.

Proud season ticket holder Jim Carswell, from Barassie, said: “It was going to cost us £40 for a supporters bus and £65 for the train and if it goes to extra time and penalties we’ve missed the train and all the hotels in Manchester are fully booked. We just thought we’d do it in style. It’s £75 a head.

“Rangers getting into the final is once in a lifetime opportunity, I just can’t wait to go - I wish it was today.

“We got a really good deal from West Coast Limos. They’ll be taking us down and waiting for us then we’ll be heading up a couple of hours after the match.”

But the 43-year-old construction worker’s two kids are suffering final heartache.

He added: “Tony, 15, is doing a GCSE that day and he keeps asking whether he can just go to the match but there is no way, he’s doing that exam. Shannon, 13, is just too young to be going down - but she’s annoyed because she goes to every match up here.”

Jim has been an Ibrox season ticket holder for over 30 years since going to his first match when he was three.

However this will be the first time he’s travelled in such luxury to the game. The lads will all be entertained with a TV, karaoke and smoke machine which will mean they’ll never get bored.

He continued: “I never thought I would see Rangers getting into the Uefa Cup final in my lifetime. I think they can do it, you have to go down with the right attitude don’t you? I also think we can still win the league.”

The Gers are set to take on Zenit St Petersburg in Manchester after a lengthy battle saw them sail into the final.

But it will be a hard battle with no Scottish team winning a European title since 1983 when Aberdeen took the Cup Winners’ Cup beating Real Madrid 2-1.
